Tony Schiller is a World Champion Triathlete. He’s also the Race Director for the MiracleKids Triathlon.
Here’s Tony’s Triathlon Tips to Get Ready:
1. Enter the Race - it takes courage to enter but I promise you'll be glad you did.
2. Start Training Today - summer's here so make the most of it by riding your bike, running and swimming every chance you get.
3. Find a Training Buddy - it's more fun when you have someone to train with so talk a friend into doing the race with you. Set a goal for both of you to train enough to sweat and get a little out of breath everyday.
4. Keep a Jounal - at the end of each day, write in the name of the sports or activities you played that day. See if you can go all summer without any blank days.
5. 60 Minute Rule - every single day commit to at least 60 minutes of outside physical activity.
6. Practice Positive Self-Talk - I can do it . . . it's going to be great . . . I'm getting in the best shape of my life . . . I love to swim - I love to bike - I love to run . . . I'm a lean-mean-racing-machine.
7. Learn to Swim - what fun is living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes if you can't swim? Make a goal of swimming the whole course at MiracleKids even if it means taking swim lessons.
8. Keep it Fun - almost all MiracleKids participants are new to triathlon so don't compare yourself to others or put pressure on yourself to win. Just do your best!
9. Set Your Own Records - determine how far you can swim, bike and run without stopping. Then over the course of the summer, keep setting your own new records and then break all three at the MiracleKids Triathlon.
10. Finish with a Smile - your picture will be taken at the finish line so remember to look proud and finish with a big smile on your face.
