Top Fundraiser

Our all-time top fund-raiser is a young man all of us connected with the triathlon will never forget. His name is Jordan Dahlke, and despite his condition with Cerebral Palsy, he has finished the race 4-straight years and has always been our top fund-raiser. His total is now over $36,000 raised in support for the foundation. Jordan is truly a Miracle Kid. Here's our interview with Jordan:

Is it hard for you to be physically active? Yes. It effects my hips and legs and a little in my hands so it's harder to work out. I walk with crutches and have a custom 3 wheel bike.

Have you been able to participate in athletics? I played adaptive softball until the team folded. I ride horses in the "We Can Ride" program. I bike and walk a lot. And of course the Miracle Kids Triathlon!

What was it about the MiracleKids Triathlon that attracted you to sign up? It gave me some incentive to reach a goal last summer. It gave me a reason to compete in a physical activity.

Did having the race on your schedule motivate you to train? I wanted to do well, so I trained a lot. I biked and walked every day. I wanted to be proud of myself. At first I thought it was going to be too tough, but realized I could do it if I worked hard at it.

What was it like on race day? I was nervous. I didn't want to fail in front of family and friends.

What lasting impact did the race make on you? I know I can do it again. I like being in the spot light instead of always watching my brother be good in sports.

What was it like to be recognized as the #1 fund-raiser? I didn't think about that very much, but it was fun to be at the top in something!

What are you goals for the 2008 MiracleKids Triathlon? I want to do it faster than last year. I want to raise more money and use as little help as possible during the race.

What advice do you have for kids who would like to race the MiracleKids but are a little nervous they might not be able to do the whole thing? It is not as hard as you might think! Suck it up and do it! Think about how good the accomplishment feels! It is much better than not doing it at all.

What advice does he have for other kids who will be raising funds? Think big! Raise a lot but don't raise as much as me! I want to be number 1 again!
