Setting Up Your T-Zone
The T-Zone is where athletes change gear – or transition – between each event
Your Own Spot – When you arrive at the race and complete registration, you’ll head to the T-Zone and get assigned your own spot. Because there’s so many bikes, your hand will be marked with the number of the sign closest to your bike. That way, if you can’t find your bike later, you can just look at your hand and then find that sign. Transition workers will complete your body marking, including the name of the cancer kid you are racing for on your calf, and then they’ll help you set up all your gear.
Parents - Parents are allowed in transition to help you set up gear before the race and after the race to collect all your gear. Parents are not allowed in transition during the race. Exceptions: please email us if your child has special needs and you would like to assist your child.
Gear - Bicycle, helmet, tennis shoes and socks, T-shirt or race shirt, towel, swim goggles, either a swimsuit/swim trunks, bike shorts, water bottle, sun glasses, race number and swim cap (both given in race bag), dry clothes for before and after the race, a back pack to carry gear and a big smile.
Clearing out of T-Zone - After your gear is set-up, you should exit the zone to leave room for other racers arriving. The next time you’ll return to the transition is after the swim.
T-1 - After finishing your swim, you’ll run barefoot back to your spot in the T-Zone for T-1. Once there, pull on your shoes and socks, shirt with race number pinned to it, helmet and bike gear to start the bike. You will run with your bike until out of the T-Zone then hop on your bike and take off (note: some kids choose to race the whole way in their swimsuit. We prefer to see kids put on a T-shirt or racing tank top).
T-2- At finish of your bike (one lap for 10 and under, 2 laps for 11 and older), slow down and dismount and run or walk with your bike back to your own spot in T-Zone. Park or rack your bike, then take off your helmet and look for the sign that says, Run Start. Head through the gate and start your run.
Collecting Gear- No one will be allowed back into transition until the last riders have finished and started their run. This is only fair. It leaves the other racers with the same space to go through transition as you had. It all happens very quickly, so upon finishing, just enjoy the picnic and cheer on all the racers and stay for the big awards celebration for the top fund-raisers.
