Tony’s Training Tips

Follow these tips from MiracleKids Triathlon Race Director and world champion triathlete, Tony Schiller, to get ready for a terrific triathlon

1. Enter the Race - It takes courage to enter, so be courageous. You’ll be glad you particpated in this fun event.

2. Start Training Today - Summer’s here so get outside and get sweaty every day. Ride your bike, run or swim every chance you get.

3. Find a Training Buddy - It’s more fun to race with a friend, so talk your friends into racing with you. Then have a contest to see who can workout the most days in a row this summer.

4. Keep a Jounal - At the end of each day, write down which sports or activities you did that day. Set a goal to go all summer without any blank days.

5. 60 Minute Rule - Every single day commit to at least 60 minutes of outside physical activity.

6. Practice Positive Self-Talk - I can do it ! It’s going to be great! I’m getting in the best shape of my life! I love to swim and bike and run! I’m a lean, mean, racing-machine.

7. Learn to Swim - Join us at 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14th at the Foss Swim Center in Eden Prairie for one-on-one swim coaching from the Pros at Foss.  Set a goal of swimming the whole course at MiracleKids (what fun is living in the Land of 10,000 Lakes if you can’t swim?)

8. Focus On Your Own Race - We have hundreds of first-time racers at the MiracleKids, so don’t compare yourself to others or put pressure on yourself to win. Just do your best and keep it fun!

9. Train Your Age Goals - Set your goal to be able to at the end of the summer train these distances…

Swim your age x 15 yards (7 year olds swim 105 straight yards, 14 year olds swim 210 straight yards)

Bike your age x 1 mile without stopping (make sure to bring water and ride with a parent)

Run your age x 100 meters without stopping (8 year olds – that’s 800 meters, twice around a track)

10. Finish with a Smile - Your picture will be taken at the finish line, so remember to look proud and finish with a big smile on your face.

11. Send and email to tony@mkidstri.com and share your favorite MiracleKids Triathlon story. He might share it with everyone!
